Thanx to the always warm hospitality of our friends Vince and Sandy Knight, who “Snow Bird” down in Arizona, Deanna got to see her first Nascar Race in Phoenix, and her favourite driver (Dale Earnardt Jr.) in action for the first time. Here’s a YouTube link with some highlights.
Vince kept us busy the rest of the trip, with tennis, bike riding, exotic restaurants (including the unique www.organstoppizza.com ) and even the odd relaxing walk.
We arrived at the track well in advance of the starting time, but still had to stand in line in the blistering sun not once but twice: one to get in the compound, and once to get out “Pit Row” passes validated (if you’re gonna go to one of these races, you might as well get up close and personal with the cars …)
We meandered through Pit row, took pictures of Dale’s car (no Dale, though), and walked along the track before heading up to our seats. Marc had of course bough seat right in front of Dale’s pit station 😉
There were no fiery crashes or major accidents, but enough caution flags that the field stayed close for most of the race … but Dale didn’t win. better luck next time …
