Suzanne Furnémont

Marc’s Mom, Suzanne Furnémont, died in March 2004.  She was 74 and had dedicated her life to her family: her husband Pierre, who stood by her through her very tough and painful last few years, and her 4 kids: Marc, Eric, Geneviève and Jean-François.

Suzanne was the daughter of Paul Renault (an engineer and businessman) and Marie-Thérèse Ledent (an accomplished pianist), and had two younger brothers: Paul-Emile (husband of Marc’s godmother Jenny) and Jean (husband of Eric’s godmother Christiane).

She loved reading (her library and literary taste definitely inspired the next generation), music (she shared her love of Brel, Bach, The Beatles and countless others with her kids … and followed them when they brought home the likes of Pink Floyd and Yves Duteil), and enjoyed good food and great wines (Marc still dreams about her cooking and her many kinds of jams).

She also managed to work from home as a secretary for Jean Rey (the 2nd president of the European Commission) and support her 4 kids through all their strange endeavours.

Suzanne motto was to give and give and give … She taught all that “One can only see clearly with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eyes.” (A. de St. Exupery )

She requested, 30 years in advance, that “Let It Be” be played at her funeral …

When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.
And when the broken hearted people
Living in the world agree,
There will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is
Still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be.
There will be an answer, let it be.
And when the night is cloudy,
There is still a light that shines on me,
Shine on until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be.
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be,
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.
